Sustainable Development Goals

IPA and the SDGs

The IPA is committed to working towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which were developed by the United Nations. These are universal goals for everyone, everywhere. Their motto is to ‘leave no one behind’.

Our Commitment to the SDGs

In 2015, all United Nations Member States agreed to these 17 goals as part of a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet.

Each of the three IPA Priority Actions to honour and advance the rights of: women and children; the rights of the earth; and the rights of indigenous and tribal people, can be clearly linked to particular SDGs, and their targets, as shown in this image.

Our particular UN Advocacy Focus for 2020-2022 is the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children.

Advent SDG Reflections 2023

Maurice Lange, Justice Contact for IPA, USA Unit Union, has created a beautiful set of fifteen reflections on the SDGs.

Each reflection includes links to an array of related resources, which can include things like the scripture of the day; ideas to Think, Pray and Act; videos; downloads; links to the SDGs and much more.

Opening each SDG reflection is like opening a door on an Advent Calendar, with interesting and useful resources connected to each one. Click below to find out more.

SDG Projects Report 2023

This report is a compilation of the projects and initiatives of Presentation People in the 20 countries that the IPA are active in, from 2019 to 2023.

They are organised by SDG, and then by country. It should be noted that, to limit redundancy, projects that fall under multiple SDGs were categorised only once.

This report was prepared by Michaela Waite, an intern of the IPA, with the tireless guidance and assistance of Dr Despoina Afroditi Milaki, the IPA Representative at the UN; Ann Marie Quinn, the Executive Director of the IPA; and the IPA Justice Contacts (JCs).

Justice Reflection Sheets

Over the course of 2023, the Society Justice Contacts created a series of justice reflection sheets, each focusing on a different SDG theme. These were circulated at the beginning of each month to Presentation People in Australia and Papua New Guinea.

The sheets have now been compiled into an attractive resource, which is available to download now.

Reflecting on the SDGs

In 2022, the USA Union compiled a series of seventeen reflections, one for every Sustainable Development Goal, to be used as a resource during Advent. The introduction points out that we are half-way to the year 2030, but these Goals are
now in jeopardy along with the future of humanity and this planet Earth.

“We must rise higher to rescue the Sustainable Development Goals – and stay true to our promise of a world of peace, dignity and prosperity on a healthy planet.”
~ António Guterres, Secretary-General, United Nations
