International Mother Earth Day 2023

Multicoloured planet earth with the date for Earth Day 2023

On Saturday April 22, 2023, we celebrate the second International Mother Earth Day. Care of the earth is one of our three key priority advocacy areas and we pledged at the 7th IPA Assembly in 2017 to honour and advance the rights of the Earth.

This day celebrated within the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. This is what the UN has to say about the importance of the decade: ‘Ecosystems support all life on Earth. The healthier our ecosystems are, the healthier the planet – and its people. Restoring our damaged ecosystems will help to end poverty, combat climate change and prevent mass extinction. But we will only succeed if everyone plays a part.’

The UN concludes: ‘For this International Mother Earth Day, let’s remind ourselves – more than ever – that we need a shift to a more sustainable economy that works for both people and the planet. Let’s promote harmony with nature and the Earth.
