International Day for the Eradication of Poverty 2023

Poster to End Poverty

The United Nations marks 17 October each year as the International Day for Eradication of Poverty. It is a global observance dedicated to raising awareness about the ongoing fight against poverty and the need for collective action to eliminate this widespread issue.

It serves as a reminder the poverty is not only a global challenge but also a barrier to achieving social justice and sustainable development. This day encourages individuals, communities and governments worldwide to take concrete steps to alleviate poverty, empower marginalised communities, and work towards a world where everyone can enjoy their basic human rights. The day offers a time to recognise the struggles and efforts of those living in poverty as well as give them a chance to make their concerns heard. The goal of eradicating poverty aligns to the heart of our Presentation charism.

“Dignity for all in practice” is the umbrella theme of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty for 2022-2023. This is because the dignity of the human being is not only a fundamental right but constitutes the basis of all other fundamental rights.

Dignity for all in practice: the commitments we make together for social justice, peace, and the planet.”
